What’s the Right Oil Change Frequency for Your Car?

Chevy Oil Change Technician

If you’re like a lot of our Monroe customers, you like to be on top of your car’s maintenance schedule. That means knowing when to change the oil. How often should you change your oil? The quick lube guys will tell you that the correct oil change mileage is once every 3,000 miles. But other experts agree that changing your oil once every 5,000–7,500 miles is more than adequate for most cars. But the exact schedule can depend on the make and model of your car as well as other factors.

Our service department wants to help you keep your car running in top shape, so you don’t end up broken down somewhere along the road. So, let’s take a closer look at how to know the correct oil change frequency for your vehicle.

How Can You Find the Correct Oil Change Frequency for Your Car?

As we said, you may hear different opinions on when to change the oil in your car. But, most mechanics agree that once every 5,000 miles is a good standard of oil change mileage for most vehicles, despite what the guys at the quick oil and lube shop might say.

But the most reliable source for the proper oil change frequency for your car is the owner’s manual. For instance, owner’s manuals for many late-model cars recommend getting the oil changed once every 7,500 miles. So, check your owner’s manual to determine how often you should change your oil to keep your car running on our Matthews roads.

Chevy Truck Oil Change Schedule

We sell and service a lot of Chevy trucks at Hendrick Chevrolet Monroe, so a lot of our customers want to know about the Chevy truck oil change schedule. Read about each truck model, below:

  • Chevy Silverado 1500 oil change intervals are recommended every 7,500 miles.
  • Like the 1500, the Chevy Silverado HD oil change frequency is every 7,500 miles — this applies to both the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD.
  • The mid-size Chevy Colorado oil change schedule is, you guessed it, every 7,500 miles.

As you can see, Chevy makes things simple for its drivers by building its models to follow standard maintenance recommendations wherever possible. However, keep in mind that if you use your truck for routine towing, high-mileage travel, or other strenuous activities, your Chevy truck oil change schedule might need to be more frequent. If needed, you can always speak with our service advisors to create a schedule that suits your driving habits!

What Oil Change Frequency Does Your Warranty Require?

If your car is still under warranty, it likely specifies the exact oil change mileage intervals. Holding to that schedule will prevent you from voiding your car’s warranty. So, check your warranty to see when to change the oil in your car.
