Rather, there should be indicators on the side of the coolant reservoir that will help you check the coolant level. If you can see the coolant level sitting at the “full” marker, then you have enough coolant.

If the coolant level is below the “full” marker, more coolant is needed. Remove the radiator cap and add your coolant or a 50/50 mix of coolant/water — check the bottle to understand whether your coolant is premixed or you need to mix the proper ratio yourself. While you’re adding your coolant, it’s a convenient time to inspect the hoses connected to the radiator for leaks and damage. Before removing the radiator cap and adding coolant, allow the engine to cool down completely.

What Does Healthy Coolant Look Like? 

Quality coolant should be thinner than oil but thicker than water. If you think your coolant looks a little sludgy, don’t hesitate to schedule a service appointment.
